This is a series of paintings executed on house paint sample brochures. Pages from these brochures become the painting’s substrate. Each page is mounted on foam board for support and acrylic paint is then applied directly to the printed surface.
These house paint sample brochures caught my eye at the hardware store while choosing
colors for our house. Fascinated by inventive color names and how they're showcased in slick photos of immaculate home decor, I began to imagine the sorts of scenarios that might transpire within these domestic spaces. The cumulative free association of text and image invites playful interplay among notions of utilitarian and artistic painting traditions, passing visual trends and perceived ideals of personal space.
